Sustainability Success Story: VMware’s Journey to Becoming a Sustainability Leader
VMware is a pinnacle example of radical scaling of sustainability within a corporation. Their rapid rise to the top of the corporate sustainability ladder sends a message to other companies that it’s never too late to begin your renewable energy journey.

Innovation & Technology

Shrinking Emissions Through Virtualization
The collective impact of customers using VMware’s server virtualization products is estimated to have avoided 340 million MT CO2e over the last 13 years*. Having pioneered the development of server virtualization technologies, we’ve significantly increased the operational efficiency of IT resources and reduced the number of servers needed. In fact, every server virtualized is estimated to avoid the output of 4 tons of CO2 per year.

In Honor of Earth Day – Find Out How Much Carbon Your Virtualization Infrastructure is Avoiding!
Having pioneered the development of server virtualization, VMware has significantly increased the operational efficiency of IT resources. Server virtualization is a key element of cloud computing. It allows for elasticity through rapid provisioning and de-provisioning of services. By reducing the number of servers needed, and increasing the utilization rates of servers deployed, virtualization software also decreases, often dramatically, the total energy required to support a given service. Lower power consumption associated with server virtualization reduces the release of greenhouse gases (GHGs) like carbon dioxide (CO2).

Environment

Rebooting The Earth
VMware is on a mission to ensure a net positive effect across our products, people and planet. This Earth Day, we are taking action to inspire a ripple effect through our collective impact. For every employee that pledges to take sustainability-related actions at home or at work, VMware will plant a tree on their behalf through Restore the Earth (REF) Foundation.

Green Infrastructure

Green Power in India
VMware India recently sealed a deal with its builders to enable two of its largest buildings based in the city of Bangalore – Kalyani Vista and Kalyani Magnum – to receive 85% of their power from renewable energy. Kalyani Vista will receive wind energy for close to 438,000 sq. ft while Kalyani Magnum will receive energy for nearly 206,212 sq.ft from wind power turbines located in the State of Karnataka.

Green Infrastructure

Electric Cabs
VMware India recently partnered with India's first all-electric cab service – Lithium Cabs to provide employees with green transportation in order to reduce carbon footprints while transporting employees in the city of Bangalore.
