(3BL Media / theCSRfeed) February 3, 2012 - Barrick has won the award for best practice of Corporate Social Responsibility at the 2012 IR Magazine Canada Awards, held Feb. 1 in Toronto. This annual event brings together the investor relations community to recognize outstanding achievement. The awards are based on an independent survey of the investment community conducted for Investor Relations Magazine.

“CSR really is critical to our success as a company and, every year, the bar is raised higher,” said Nancy White, Barrick’s Director of Responsible Mining Communications, who accepted the award at the event. “Barrick recognizes we must be proactive to learn and improve, and align our performance with rigorous international standards.

“Mining in a responsible and ethical way encompasses all business functions and our 20,000 employees on five continents. Our approach is earning the support of communities wherever we do business and we are committed to earning this support every day.”

“At Barrick, we see our role in CSR as being a partner in building strong, healthy, and prosperous communities,” said Peter Sinclair, Vice President, Corporate Social Responsibility. “Receiving an award in this category means a great deal to us at Barrick. It tells us we are on the right track, as we set our sights on further improving our performance in the future.”

“This is a great acknowledgment of the excellent work that we are doing around the world which is also beautifully communicated in publications like Beyond Borders,” said Barrick CEO Aaron Regent. “It demonstrates that we are making progress, however, we all recognize that we still have much to do but that we should tackle the challenges in front of us with increased confidence.”
