Dear Members and Friends,

As I reflect on this past year, I cannot help but be humbled. So much has been happening all around us, and yet our members and supporters have remained committed to the importance of the Arbor Day Foundation’s mission. And the chorus of people dedicated to using trees as a solution to global issues is growing — from YouTube stars to corporate executives to school classrooms. Trees have again shown their ability to unite us this year. They’ve proven particularly comforting as many of us have sought peace and comfort amid trees during the global pandemic. Together, we were able to plant trees at a historic level. This year, more than 40 million trees were planted and distributed — the equivalent of planting New York City’s Central Park every 6 hours for an entire year. Those 40 million trees have the power to provide us with the necessities of life for generations to come, the power to create change amid crisis. In the pages that follow, the story of the Arbor Day Foundation’s unprecedented year unfolds. You will find an update on our Time for Trees® initiative, where I am happy to report that we reached our goal to inspire 5 million tree planters two years ahead of schedule. You will see the continued strength of longstanding programs as well as the promise of new ones. You will also read about the powerful #TeamTrees® movement that inspired a new generation of tree planters. None of this would be possible without the dedication of Foundation members and partners. Thanks to each of you, the important work of making our world greener and healthier continues. With deepest gratitude,

Matt Harris

Chief Executive
