This Spring, I had the privilege of presenting a session on the future of building automation before an audience of leaders in the converging worlds of transportation, information technology, energy and real estate. Called VERGE, the event was part of a series of conferences sponsored by GreenBiz and conducted on four continents as well as virtually.

My talk was on the new generation of smart building systems–such as our IntelliCommand portfolio monitoring and control system powered by Pacific Controls technology—and how innovations like cloud computing and smart grid infrastructure are stepping stones to an energy-efficient, connected future.

In the six months since that VERGE presentation, interest in these leading-edge systems has skyrocketed as building owners see the fast payback via energy savings and the value of potentially heading off shutdowns of critical facilities. And we continue to learn more about the tremendous value of smart grid technology and how intelligent buildings can tap into it.

This is all leading up to the news this week that I have been named a finalist for a new award from VERGE, in the category of Next-Gen Buildings.  The winner will be selected by popular vote, and two of the other finalists are with household-name companies, so this is probably a good time to say it’s an honor just to be nominated. But regardless of my chances, I would like to make a good showing, so if you can vote at this page it would be greatly appreciated.

And since I’m in Chicago, it seems appropriate to note that you can vote more than once. So come back tomorrow and the next day and help us get that total up!
