Campaign: Digital Safety

This post is from the Verizon Responsibility Blog.

As a long-time leader in family digital safety, Verizon will be busy with a number of initiatives this month in support of June’s National Internet Safety Month.  As technology continues to advance, the concept of “internet safety” is changing rapidly for families.  With kids and teens now consuming digital media on smartphones and tablets, wireless technology is becoming deeply embedded in our daily lives.  Internet safety solutions have become more complex than simply keeping the family computer in a common household area.

Verizon is committed to equipping family customers with the tools and educational resources they need to create the digital experience that is right for their family.  We see our work falling into three pillars.  I like to call them the “3 P’s of Online Safety.”  They are “Prepare, Prevent and Protect.”

We “Prepare” customers for integrating technology into their lives by providing access to global experts that offer advice on responsible use and risk management.  For example, Verizon’s Parental Controls Center provides up-to-date online safety information for families, and covers a wide range of topics from sexting to cyberbullying to family-friendly, educational apps.

We “Prevent” online safety risks and challenges by using our technology to safeguard our customers and employees, so that they can reliably use our wireless and broadband networks and products.   One example of this activity is Verizon’s support of CTIA and the Electronic Software Ratings Board (ESRB) mobile app rating initiative.  These easy-to-use ratings will help consumers better manage their wireless experience by providing a consistent rating system for mobile applications.

We “Protect” customers by providing a suite of parental control tools across wireless, online and TV platforms.  From free Wireless Content Filters to FiOS TV parental controls, Verizon is at the forefront of parental control technology that provides parents with control and peace of mind.

Verizon recognizes National Internet Safety Month as an opportunity to educate our employees and customers about responsible use of our products and services.  Stay tuned for more resources and activities throughout the month of June!
