Waltham, MA, December 9, 2016 /3BL Media/ -  National Grid applauds the recommendations of Mayor Marty Walsh and the Green Ribbon Commission for their meaningful and detailed report that addresses climate change for the City of Boston.

The Climate Ready Boston initiative features several components to address the challenges of climate change by 2030. Specifically, it includes updated climate projections for the City, a citywide climate vulnerability assessment, and recommended climate resiliency strategies.

“Congratulations to Mayor Walsh on this report; it provides a solid roadmap to for the City of Boston to get its arms around the impact of climate change,” said Marcy Reed, president of National Grid Massachusetts and Green Ribbon Commission member. “Energy delivery infrastructure is foundational for the health and wellbeing of the communities we serve, and therefore this work is critical.  Receiving the most current information regarding climate projections so we can continue to plan accordingly is extremely important for us.“

National Grid is the natural gas provider for the City of Boston and has infrastructure that could be exposed to sea level rise and coastal flooding due to climate change. National Grid has already taken steps to protect against storm surge with aggressive resiliency planning and infrastructure upgrades.

National Grid is a leader in addressing climate change and has been named one of the Greenest Companies by Newsweek for the past two years in a row. The company was also honored this year by the U.S. EPA for its innovative work on clean air and climate change. National Grid is a supporter of COP21 at the global level, and advocate for the EPA’s Clean Power Plan, despite a Supreme Judicial Court ruling halting enforcement of the plan.
