NATIONAL HARBOR, Md., September  24, 2015 /3BL Media/ – MGM National Harbor, the world-class destination casino resort under construction in Prince George’s County, Md., kicked off  “back-to-school” season by donating time and resources to local elementary and middle schools. As part of its ongoing commitment to community engagement and investment, MGM National Harbor participated in several events around the County to provide students, their families and their schools with much-needed funds and supplies. Over the past few weeks, MGM has joined forces with the Washington Redskins Foundation, Thurgood Marshall Middle School, John Hanson Montessori School, and Ft. Foote Elementary School to help get the school year off to a successful start.

“We are proud to be a part of the Prince George’s County community, so it’s important to us that we invest our time, talent and resources within our neighborhood,” said Lorenzo Creighton, President and COO of MGM National Harbor. “Education is an integral part of building strong communities. We are pleased to be able to support and enable organizations around the County that share our commitment to education-related volunteerism and community engagement.”

From Oxon Hill to FedEx Field to Temple Hills, the MGM National Harbor team contributed to making a meaningful impact on about 750 students and families in the County. A snapshot of the community efforts and events includes:

  • Back-to-School Nights at John Hanson Montessori School & Ft. Foote Elementary School: Working together with Whiting-Turner, the general contractor on the MGM National Harbor project, nearly $60,000 was donated collectively by the two companies to the Oxon Hill-based elementary schools for the purchase of interactive Whiteboards and school supplies. More than 200 students, teachers and parents attended the events.
  • Washington Redskins Back to School Fair: MGM National Harbor employees volunteered their time with the Washington Redskins Charitable Foundation at FedEx Field. The Foundation, aided by Catholic Charities, provided low-income children with a variety of goods and services to get ready for the school year, from dental check-ups to eye exams, to fresh haircuts and new school supplies. The MGM volunteer team put its hospitality skills to use by checking in approximately 400 people, helping families navigate through the Fair, and distributing school supplies to students.
  • Community Day at Thurgood Marshall Middle School: MGM National Harbor, in partnership with the Coalition for Public Safety Training in School, Inc. and Wal-Mart, filled 150 backpacks for underprivileged students through its $2,000 donation.

MGM National Harbor is the newest addition to the MGM Resorts International (NYSE: MGM) portfolio of destination resorts. It is expected to open in the second half of 2016.
