The List: 6 Green Ways to Be Patriotic

Posted on Recyclebank's Live Green Blog

This year I’m going to celebrate Independence Day by being red, white, and blue… and green! There are many ways to show your patriotism while still being environmentally responsible. Try these ideas.

  1. Use locally grown fruit to make a red, white, and blue dessert. Stop by a farmers’ market to pick up blueberries, blackberries, strawberries, or raspberries, and turn them into a festive dessert to serve at your Independence Day celebration. You’ll be supporting local agriculture.
  2. Recycle your flag properly. If your flag is worse for wear, it’s time to retire it. It’s disrespectful to just to throw a flag in the trash, but recycling it honors the country and the environment. A few services accept flags for recycling via mail.
