KeyBank Named One of the 50 Most Community-Minded Companies In the United States

KeyBank has been named a 2021 honoree of The Civic 50 by Points of Light, the world’s largest organization dedicated to volunteer service.  This is KeyBank’s 8th consecutive recognition by Points of Light as one of the most community minded companies in the United States.

The Civic 50 provides a national standard for corporate citizenship and showcases how companies can use their time, skills and resources to drive social impact in their communities and company. The honorees are companies with annual U.S. revenues of at least $1 billion and are selected based on four dimensions of their corporate citizenship and social impact programs – investment of resources, integration across business functions, institutionalization through policies and systems and impact measurement.

“KeyBank’s work in the community is central to our culture and a source of great pride for our teammates,” said Eric Fiala, KeyBank’s Head of Corporate Responsibility. “The past year brought tremendous challenges to our communities and entire country. Our teammates turned those challenges into opportunities to intensify our impact and strengthen how we make a difference in our community.”

During 2020, KeyBank surpassed the aggregate goal of its $16.5 billion National Community Benefits Plan, launched in 2017. With more than $18 billion in lending, investments, and philanthropy focused on economic access and equity for underserved communities and populations, KeyBank reached the National Community Benefits Plan’s aggregate goals one year early and increased its commitments to $40 billion. These investments have supported affordable housing and community development projects nationwide, small business and home lending in low- and moderate-income communities, and philanthropic efforts targeted toward education, workforce development, and safe, vital neighborhoods.

This included more than $45 million in transformational philanthropy during 2020, including $18 million across KeyBank’s markets to directly support individuals and businesses impacted by COVID-19. KeyBank’s teammates also provided more than 50,000 volunteer hours, many of them through virtual opportunities, in 2020 supporting nonprofits and organizations in their communities.

“Points of Light believes that corporate leadership and commitment to civic engagement is critical to strengthening communities,” said Natalye Paquin, president and CEO, Points of Light. We thank KeyBank for their investment in the communities where they live and word, and look forward to supporting them in leveraging their  time, talent and assets to make transformational change.”

Since it was launched in 2012, The Civic 50 has provided a roadmap for good corporate citizenship and showcases how committed companies are moving social impact, civic engagement and community to the center of their business. The survey is administered by True Impact, a company specializing in helping organizations maximize and measure their social and business value, and consists of quantitative and multiple-choice questions that inform the scoring process. The Civic 50 is the only survey and ranking system that exclusively measures corporate involvement in communities.
