Technical Writer

Responsibilities

Writing

  • Author original content for publications highlighting implementation experience, challenges, and accomplishments
  • Synthesize information across the organization and in varied labor related fields of expertise
  • Synthesize data to assess and report on impact of specific projects and programs
  • Initiating thought leadership articles and presentations in coordination with communications staff, developing content and drafting articles, editorials & speeches
  • Author original content for technical publications highlighting implementation experience, challenges, and accomplishments
  • Edit SAI technical documents (e.g., conference abstracts, presentations)

 

Cross-Organizational Support

  • Contribute to reporting work both internally and externally, supporting development and communications staff as well as project managers
  • Under guidance of other technical advisors, assist SAI field staff in production of technical publications
  • Advise on targeted dissemination strategies to ensure technical publications reach priority audiences.

Research

  • Conduct research on specific and relevant issues
  • Work with project leads and country teams to capture critical concepts for articulation to external audience
  • Interview experts, access on-line information, and utilize a range of sources to create publications such as reader-friendly technical handbooks

Content Development

  • Curricula development for training and other capacity building programs
  • Development of handbooks, training guides, and other published materials

Qualifications and Core Competencies

 

Experience and Education

  • 3+ years technical writing responsibilities, preferably on labor related topics
  • Both Nonprofit and for profit experience or past work at a social enterprise a plus
  • Bachelor's degree in related field, with master’s degree preferred

Skills

  • Ability to design visual representations of data, including diagrams, charts, and graphs
  • Qualitative and quantitative data analysis
  • Organization, with an emphasis on being thorough and very detail-oriented, with ability to multi-task
  • Computer proficiency,  including proficiency with Microsoft Office products
  • Proficiency with Adobe Suite of Products Preferred
  • Ability to work effectively in a highly collaborative team
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills across all dimensions (written, verbal) and the ability to build effective internal and external relationships
  • Ability to work successfully with diverse constituencies, including governmental agencies, NGOs, think tanks, academia, expert communities, media/journalists, and the private sector
