Learn, Connect and Grow. That was our promise to the more than 500 business leaders who attended the Comerica Bank Women’s Business Symposium in Orange County. Our 13th year of hosting this event was a day full of thought-leadership content, inspiration and empowerment.

Entrepreneur Ivette Mayo kicked off the program with a spirited speech encouraging the audience to challenge limited thinking, take bold action, push past excuses and move beyond complacent to be POWERFUL.

Bestselling author AmyK Hutchens followed with a dynamic presentation explaining how to confidently navigate our toughest conversations without saying something we’ll regret, giving away our power or damaging our relationships.

The program wrapped up with our featured guest, Cookie Johnson, who was interviewed on stage by her friend KTLA5 News Anchor Lynette Romero. In an intimate and personal conversation, Johnson shared some of her most difficult life experiences, such as when she learned her husband Earvin “Magic” Johnson had been diagnosed with HIV. To hear how she navigated through such a challenging time was a lesson in resilience and compassion.

In addition to the fantastic speakers, Comerica was proud to present the nonprofit Girls, Inc. of Orange County with a check for $50,000. That brought the total amount given to Girls, Inc. from the symposium to $420,000 over the past several years.

The Comerica Bank Women’s Business Symposium was started in Orange County and it has been so successful it is now a national campaign for Comerica Bank. We now hold four events which also include Detroit, Dallas/Fort Worth and Houston.

At Comerica, we have seen the power of women leaders and understand what a strong impact they make.

Our Chief Financial Officer, Chief Human Resources Officer and General Auditor are women who earned promotions through many years of dedication and perseverance.

On the client side, we know women entrepreneurs who have turned their ideas for making better products into successful businesses.

Women in business have the constant challenge of advancing their careers while at the same time taking care of their families and themselves. Whether working toward that promotion and next career step or creating and growing a business, women understand that together they are stronger.
