For many small, rural towns across Canada, the healthcare challenge is not only attracting but also keeping practitioners in the community. In Caledonia, Nova Scotia, the community had been successful at the first. They had a team of doctors and a nurse practitioner who played an integral role in the life of the community. But they still faced the challenge of keeping their team in the community. The doctors had been working in the town’s former liquor store - a renovated double-wide trailer. It was adequate, but only just. When Renate Bennett, the new Nurse Practitioner, arrived, she found herself working in a much smaller trailer that lacked both insulation and running water.
