Tools and Materials Needed

  • 1 magazine (5 pages)

  • Scissor or razor

Instructions on How To Make a Coaster Using a Magazine: Full instructions with pictures can be found on How About Orange.

  • Rip five pages out of a magazine.

  • Cut torn edges so they are straight.

  • Cut the pages in half lengthwise.

  • Fold each page into thirds. Making sure that you fold the cut edges inwards.

  • Then fold that in half. Repeat for all pages.

  • Start weaving. This is where it gets to be a bit confusing and you need some coordination. I'd definitely consult the images in the original post or check out my video.

  • You want to weave the fold pages into each other so they interlock. Think over, under, over, under.

  • After the first two strips are interlocked, you'll want to add another strip to interlock with those and keep going.

  • Like I said check out the images in the original or check the video. It's too confusing for me to write.

  • Make sure that the strips remain tight together while weaving.

  • Once you have all of the strips interlocked, you'll want to cut off the extra edges and tuck them into the closest weave.

  • Your coaster is now complete.

  • You can spray with acrylic to harden and seal it or just use it as is and accept that the paper will crinkle up some. is dedicated to our users.
