Diwali (or Deepvali), also known as the Festival of Lights, is the major festival celebrated in the Indian sub-continent. It celebrates the triumph of good over evil, light over darkness and knowledge over ignorance. The festival is typically celebrated for five days. It is a time for reflection, appreciation and reconnection. It is recognized through fireworks, the exchange of savory or sweet foods and gifts among family and friends.

At Fifth Third Bank, the Asian and Pacific Islander business resource group members will celebrate Diwali by hosting guest speakers, cultural presentations and interactive activities during the week of November 1st.

Diane Yi, Lead Platform Engineer at Fifth Third, said it is important for companies to recognize Diwali. “Inclusion and diversity is a shared value at Fifth Third and celebrating Diwali is part of our effort to understand and appreciate different cultures. It is also an effective way to introduce and promote the diversity of employees of various cultural and religious beliefs, while demonstrating Fifth Third’s core value to our communities,” she said. “Celebrating Diwali is meaningful for our employees and it sends a message to our clients and customers that we promote an inclusive and diverse environment.”
