Sport is universally recognized as not only having physical health benefits, but as having an important role to play in both positive mental health and raising self-esteem. Furthermore, ensuring all members of society can equally access sporting opportunities is of fundamental importance.

New Holland Construction, a construction equipment brand of CNH Industrial N.V. (NYSE:CNHI / MI:CNH), believes employment opportunities should be open to all, and has developed a range of accessibility solutions – including a wheelchair accessible backhoe loader. And as further testament to its commitment to inclusion, it sponsored the Butija Wheelchair Tennis Cup 2019, one of the largest professional wheelchair championships in South America.

The inclusive configuration of this specific backhoe loader means it can be operated by operators with or without reduced mobility, who will all enjoy the same levels of comfort, performance and practicality. Specific modifications have been made to the control logic to facilitate the operation of what is, one of Brazil's best-selling backhoe loaders.

Coach of the Brazilian Wheelchair Tennis Team and creator of the Butija Wheelchair Tennis Cup, Leonardo Flavio de Oliveira, praised the affordable backhoe design. For him, the concept of accessibility facilitates every day activities. "With universal accessibility in mind, the machine will certainly change the lives of many people, who otherwise would have been forced to stop working, providing dignity and showing that reduced mobility is not synonymous with disability," he said.
