In 2015, the United States reached 21.3 gigawatts of total installed solar capacity, enough to power 4.3 million American homes. There are currently over 300 projects registered for the Living Building Challenge, and buildings like the Bullitt Center in Seattle, which achieved Full Living Building Certification in April, generated 60% more energy than it used in 2014. You can bring Net Positive Energy solutions to your next building project! Learn how to design and create Net Zero Energy Buildings in our new 5-part Energy Petal Webinar Series.

A New Age of Design: Introduction to the Energy Petal

September 29, 2015 | 9:00 - 10:00am PDT | ONLINE

The Living Building Challenge is the most rigorous building performance standard in the world. To successfully achieve the Challenge project teams must meet a series of Petal requirements: Place, Water, Energy, Health & Happiness, Materials, Equity and Beauty. This webinar focuses specifically on basics of the Energy Petal. The Energy Petal is intended to signal a new age of design, wherein the built environment relies solely on renewable forms of energy and operates year round in a pollution-free manner. Participants will gain an understanding of the strategies and behavior change needed to achieve NZEB Certification. Appropriate for anyone working in the building industry, participants should already have an understanding of the Living Building Challenge. They should be familiar with the Living Building Challenge Standard and the Imperatives and Petal structure of the Challenge. The session will highlight examples of innovative projects and stories of how projects have been successful in changing the energy marketplace.

Net Positive Energy at the Bullitt Center

October 23, 2015 | 9:00 - 10:00am PDT | ONLINE

The Bullitt Center, a full Living Certified building often referred to as the world’s greenest office building, reimagines the design and function of an office building through elements such as daylighting, natural ventilation and rainwater harvesting. One of the project’s defining sustainability characteristics is the angled photovoltaic-mounted canopy stretching over the building. Through thoughtful design and operation strategies, the Bullitt Center has achieved an incredibly low EUI of 13 and produces nearly 83% more energy per year than it consumes. In this webinar you will learn the design strategies, materials choices, technologies and tenant engagement programs used to make the world's greenest building Net Positive.

Engineering Net Zero Energy Buildings

November 3, 2015 | 9:00 - 10:00am PST | ONLINE

Net Zero Energy Buildings are high performance buildings which utilize various design and systems strategies to reduce energy use coupled with on-site renewable energy systems to produce as much as, if not more, energy than the building uses over the course of a year. In this webinar learn how you can engineer a Net Zero Energy Building, the technologies and systems that are available for your project and how climate influences design. Engineers experienced with the Living Building Challenge will use examples from several projects to describe key steps to engineering Net Zero Energy buildings.

Net Zero Energy Communities and Neighborhoods

December 15, 2015 | 9:00 - 10:00am PST | ONLINE

There are many opportunities and benefits to planning for Net Zero Energy at the community scale. The advantage to working beyond individual buildings allows resources and infrastructure to be and creates the opportunity for energy balance to be planned on a community scale. This energy plan can then takes into account building use intensity and output. Working on a community or neighborhood scale encourages planners to think more broadly about energy use and include transportation infrastructure and land use in plans to meet energy or carbon goals. This webinar will focus specifically on neighborhood scale systems and solutions, with case study examples, to meet Net Positive Energy goals.

Getting to Zero: Net Zero Energy Building Projects

January 13, 2016 | 9:00 - 10:00am PST | ONLINE

The International Living Future Institute’s Net Zero Energy Building Certification sets out to highlight buildings that are high efficiency and Net Positive Energy producers. This webinar will explore the growth and exciting path of Net Zero Energy within the sustainable building movement using examples of a range of building types including commercial, educational and residential. Participants will learn the basic elements of Certification and highlight inspiring case studies including project teams’ motivation for pursuing Net Zero Energy Building Certification, how they achieved it and how they maintain performance over time.
