CONTENT: Press Release

Hello, I’m Emily Polk, and these are your CSR Minute headlines for Tuesday, June 1st:

Last week, Apple surpassed Microsoft to become the world’s most valuable technology company, with a market capitalization of over $122 billion dollars. But the company’s rapid growth has come with a high cost to its CSR standards. Apple’s 2010 Supplier Responsibility Progress Report said that only 46 percent of its audited suppliers comply with the company’s working hours limit of a 60-hour work week. The report also found that only 65 percent of the audited factories complied with local minimum wage and benefit laws, and a 51 percent compliance rate with management accountability and responsibility requirements.

Tomorrow in New York City, the Personal Democracy Forum and MobilActive will host a “Mobilize Your Cause Bootcamp.” The five-hour workshop will explore the strategies, tactics, and tools available to activists, change agents, and businesses to mobilize action for social good. Presenters will include Craig Newmark, founder of Craiglist, and Nicola Wells, an organizer for the Fair Immigration Reform Movement.
