In celebration of Women's History Month, female leaders from across Cox Enterprises are sharing insights from their experience throughout the month of March. Maria Soklis is president of Cox Automotive Canada.

**What women inspire you and why?**

The type of women who inspire me are those who have been able to excel professionally without compromising their feminine identity.

**What do you think is the most significant barrier to female leadership?**

Despite a society that accepts the concept of gender equality, the infrastructure to support professional women to succeed remains grossly underdeveloped. This in my opinion is the most significant barrier to successful female leadership.

**What will be the biggest challenge and opportunity for the generation of women behind you?**

The biggest challenge and opportunity for the generation of women behind me will be to continue to build a flexible work environment that offers professional women the same opportunities to succeed while diminishing double standards. Mentorship programs and support networks will play a very important role.

**What are the best and worst decisions you've ever made?**

Some of the best professional decisions I have made have been to surround myself with diverse, progressive and supportive professionals. Some of the worst decisions I have made have been ignoring my instinct on people or situations.

**What is your perspective on work/life balance?**

My perspective on work life balance is that it is very important for physical and mental health. That having been said, I do not believe there is a perfect formula and the formula can vary depending on the stage you are at in your life. I strongly believe that if you are fair and offer people the ability to “take care of life”, in most cases, it will build their loyalty and productivity.
