Our sustainability consulting interactions tell us that companies are responding to ‘green’ enthusiasm by promoting eco awareness and creating workplaces that are more appealing to the changing needs of job seekers.

 

Reflecting back on the 2009 article, [Jumping into the Green Job Market](http://www.greenbiz.com/blog/2009/03/30/jumping-green-job-market), the recovering market was creating a new generation of workers. This awakened enthusiasm continues today as the ‘green’ demographic has its eyes focused on a new set of expectations for employers. 

 

• Employees Want to Make a Difference: 80% of "young professionals" are interested in a career that makes a positive impact on the environment, and 92% prefer to work for a company that is ‘green’, environmentally friendly, or has some general eco awareness.

• Employees Seek Energy-Conscious Employers: 94% of Americans prefer to work in a building that is designed to be energy efficient and ecologically sound, recognizing LEED certification from the U.S. Green Building Council as a common standard.
