How can we make reduced energy consumption a real and seamless possibility? A unique public-private partnership between Verizon, Duke Energy, and the leaders of Charlotte, North Carolina is working to create a sustainable, energy-efficient urban core.

The Envision Charlotte project has created “intelligent buildings,” where real-time data on energy consumption is gathered using smart meters and sensors and displayed on interactive kiosks throughout uptown. Businesses and individuals can keep track of their energy usage to see how much power they consume -- or save.

The live data feed carried by the Verizon 4G LTE network encourages everyone to think about electricity as a valuable commodity and not an endless resource. Attitudes in Charlotte are changing, and the people of Charlotte are creating a greener, energy-sustainable future.
