 # Verizon Diverts 2 Million Pounds of E-Waste, Sets New Goal

Verizon today achieved its goal to collect 2 million pound of electronic waste, reaching its 2010 target eight months early.

The company also set a new goal: to collect another 2 million pounds of [e-waste](http://www.environmentalleader.com/category/e-waste/) by 2020.

[Verizon](http://www.environmentalleader.com/tag/Verizon/) met its earlier five-year e-waste goal during today’s e-waste [recycling](http://www.environmentalleader.com/category/recycling/) rally in Wilmington, North Carolina. The company says it has collected and kept from entering landfills about 200,000 pounds of e-waste in the area to date, preventing devices’ toxic materials — such as lead, arsenic, beryllium and mercury — to leach into the environment.
