 # Trump's Dishonorable Transgender Ban

 

##### It's an ill-considered decision that offends on moral and practical grounds

It's hard to know where to begin with President Donald Trump's [tweeted ban](https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2017-07-26/trump-bans-transgender-americans-from-military-service) on transgender people serving in the U.S. military, which manages to offend on both moral and practical grounds, in both style and substance. But it might be instructive to look at Israel, whose transgender soldiers have helped to defend it from existential threat for [almost two decades](http://www.latimes.com/politics/washington/la-na-essential-washington-updates-one-military-that-has-no-problem-with-1501093682-htmlstory.html).  
  
Any military's survival -- and by extension any nation's -- depends on its ability to draw on the talents of the widest possible population. Denying the U.S. military this ability undermines U.S. national security.
