Disruptions resulting from the Covid-19 pandemic have been broad and substantial, but the responses to those challenges have also been promising. In particular, the technologies that have been deployed to accommodate the need for personal distancing may also provide a guide to managing life and work in the post-pandemic era.

In many ways, the improvised work-from-home response put in place by many organizations has turned out remarkably well. Productivity has been [high](https://www.nytimes.com/2020/06/23/business/working-from-home-productivity.html "https://www.nytimes.com/2020/06/23/business/working-from-home-productivity.html"). Complaints have been [minimal](https://www.shrm.org/resourcesandtools/hr-topics/talent-acquisition/pages/taking-advantage-of-a-broader-talent-pool.aspx "https://www.shrm.org/resourcesandtools/hr-topics/talent-acquisition/pages/taking-advantage-of-a-broader-talent-pool.aspx"). Supervision issues have largely been [managed](https://hbr.org/2020/03/a-guide-to-managing-your-newly-remote-workers "https://hbr.org/2020/03/a-guide-to-managing-your-newly-remote-workers"). And commuter traffic has become a thing of the past. But what may be most remarkable is that essentially all of it is being accomplished using existing technology.
