This past Wednesday the United States [Senate](http://www.examiner.com/topic/senate) and the House of Representatives faced off in a challenge to see who could collect the most clothing to benefit [Dress for Success Washington DC](http://www.dressforsuccess.org/affiliate.aspx?sisid=86&pageid=1). Sponsored by [FedEx](http://www.fedex.com/), a [Dress for Success](http://www.examiner.com/topic/dress-for-success) corporate sponsor since 2006, the Congressional Challenge embodies the spirit of giving that has made the Dress for Success brand so successful.

Founded in New York City in 1997, Dress for Success is an international not-for-profit organization offering services designed to help women find jobs and remain employed. Each Dress for Success client receives one suit when she has a job interview and can return for a second suit or separates when she finds permanent work.

Hosted by Senator Mary Landrieu (D-La.) ,Representative Kay Granger (R-Texas) Megan Goffney, Executive Director of Dress for Success -Washington, D.C., and Gina Adams, Corporate Vice President for Government Affairs - [FedEx](http://www.examiner.com/topic/fedex), the day began at 7am and by 2pm over 1,194 pieces of clothing and accessories had been collected. The items collected can potentially provide career appropriate attire for 300 of the 2,000 women that Dress for Success’ Washington DC affiliate suits every year.

This year’s title eventually went to the House of Representatives who collected a whopping 613 items. The Senate came a close second with 581 pieces of clothing and accessories. Wednesday’s challenge brings the total number of items collected through FedEx and Dress for Success D.C.’s six-year partnership to more than 4,600 items.
