Chairman and CEO Rex Tillerson said, *“ExxonMobil’s role is to create the technologies and techniques to develop and supply energy to growing populations and economies – in a safe, secure and environmentally responsible manner.”* The *Corporate Citizenship Report* explains how ExxonMobil strives to fulfill that role. The report summarizes ExxonMobil’s plans, initiatives and performance across six key citizenship focus areas: environmental performance; managing climate change risks; safety, health and the workplace; corporate governance; economic development and supply chain management; and human rights and managing community impacts. This year’s *Corporate Citizenship Report* highlights that ExxonMobil has: - Reduced spills to land and water by 37 percent since 2002 - Achieved a goal to improve energy efficiency by 10 percent in refining and chemical operations - Reduced hydrocarbon flaring by 18 percent in Upstream operations and 43 percent in Downstream operations between 2002 and 2012 - Reduced its workforce lost-time incident rate by an average of 4 percent per year since 2002 and by 42 percent from 2011 to 2012 - Achieved $1 billion in spending with U.S. minority- and women-owned businesses through direct purchases and spend leveraged through contracts The report also describes ExxonMobil’s approach to stakeholder engagement and social investment, including: - Continuing systematic engagement with communities and indigenous peoples near its operations - Providing $106.6 million toward combatting malaria since 2002, reaching 83 million people in 17 countries throughout Africa and Asia - Investing nearly $818 million for education programs since 2002, including $140 million directed specifically toward training more than 72,000 teachers in the United States The *Corporate Citizenship Report* was prepared in accordance with the reporting guidelines and indicators of the International Petroleum Industry Environmental Conservation Association and the American Petroleum Institute Oil and Gas Industry Guidance on Sustainability Reporting (December 2010).
