Boston, April 24, 2014 /3BL Media/ — Energy Points welcomes Richard K. Lester to its Advisory Board. Lester is the Head of Nuclear Science and Engineering at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and Faculty Chair and founding Director of its Industrial Performance Center, as well as author of several notable books. His research focuses on systems of innovation, with particular emphasis on energy.

Professor Lester is internationally known for his leadership in energy research. His most recent book, Unlocking Energy Innovation: How America Can Build a Low-Cost, Low-Carbon Energy System (co-authored with David Hart), proposes innovation strategies to address the great 21st century energy-related challenges of global climate change, worldwide energy supply insecurity, and rapidly expanding global energy demand. Energy Points source energy intelligence dovetails with his initiatives in that its data and analytics provide the geospatial and temporal context needed to optimize low-carbon energy as well as determine which clean technologies, based on their energy payback, are best to research and develop.

“Sensible energy decision-making requires carefully-derived, accurate data and rigorous analysis,” said Professor Lester. “I am pleased that Energy Points is strongly committed to these goals, and I look forward to working with them as they further develop and implement their platforms.”

“Professor Lester has thoroughly studied and understands the importance of source-to-site energy analysis,” said Sandy Diehl, the Chairman of Energy Point’s Advisory Board. “He shares our vision that we must consider not only the actual energy consumed in a building, but the embodied energy of all inputs and outputs, including water and waste. It’s critical that we trace and measure all energy and resources back to their source—this is the value of Energy Points and why Professor Lester is a great addition to our Advisory Board.”

Professor Lester obtained his undergraduate degree in chemical engineering from Imperial College (London) and a doctorate in nuclear engineering from MIT. He has been a member of the MIT faculty since 1979. He serves as an advisor to corporations, governments, foundations and non-profit groups, and speaks frequently to academic, business and general audiences throughout the world.

About Energy Points

Energy Points provides source energy intelligence software. Organizations use its SaaS platform to manage and optimize their energy supply chains. It is the only company to analyze source energy—measuring total energy use from the source through the site of consumption, while accounting for resource risk and environmental impact. The Energy Points platform functions as a calculation engine for source energy. It takes customers’ on-site energy consumption data and maps it to a database of geospatial source energy data and analytics, conducting a full energy lifecycle analysis of electricity, water, fuels, and materials. By quantifying source energy the company is able to measure these different resources with a single energy metric, enabling decision-making across them, including: when to invest in distributed energy alternatives, which sources present the least risk and environmental impact, and, based on location, which energy efficiency projects will have the greatest energy and financial returns.

Energy Points is a privately held company headquartered in Boston, MA. Visit for more information.
