##### Redesigning Pro Bono Programs to Widen Social Impact

GSK is a renowned leader in the pharmaceutical industry, recently recognized for leading the corporate world toward embracing the ethos of creating shared value. The company sits atop [Fortune’s Change the World list](http://beta.fortune.com/change-the-world/gsk-1) of businesses directly confronting society’s biggest challenges. This is a title that does not come solely from good intentions, but rather from proactively using its position in the global community as a force for good.

Case in point, GSK has recently unveiled a new “micro-based” pro bono opportunity for employees in order to accommodate their needs and expand the company’s social impact. Whereas traditional global pro bono engagements imply sending a group of skilled employees to work anywhere from one week to several months on site with a beneficiary group, GSK’s micro-based pro bono engagements give global employees the flexibility to volunteer for eight hours, and can be conducted either in-person or virtually. Some of GSK’s local operating countries (LOCs) have adapted the model to provide employees with opportunities to volunteer for 40 – 60 hours.
