(3BL Media / theCSRfeed) PCI-Media Impact (Media Impact) announced today the appointment of Sean Southey as its new Executive Director. Media impact is an international non-profit organization with 25 years of experience producing Entertainment-Education programs to address health and environmental issues around the world.

Media Impact’s Board Chair, Fred Cohen, said, “For the last six months, Sean has led our organization through a remarkable period of expansion and growth as Interim Executive Director. Our decision was an easy one. We are fully confident that Sean will continue to grow our dynamic organization strategically and strengthen its mission worldwide.”

Sean joined Media Impact as Programs Director in 2009, and assumed the role of Interim Executive Director in August 2010. Under his guidance, Media Impact has expanded its reach from eight programs in six countries in 2009, to more than 25 programs in 21 countries at present.

“Sixteen months ago I joined the organization as Programs Director. Since then, I have learnt many new things. I have been delighted in meeting our partners and feeling their respect for our team and our methodology. I have heard stories that will change my life forever,” said Mr. Southey. “It is with delight and humility that I join the team as Executive Director. We are part of a social movement to motivate a healthier world. This is a huge responsibility, and must never be taken lightly.”

In addition to his experiences in media, communications and project management for international development programs, Sean brings significant creativity, resourcefulness and energy to Media Impact. He is deeply committed to community empowerment and the power of creative media to generate positive social change.

Sean joined Media Impact after more than 20 years in the development and communications fields. His multi-sector background includes 12 years with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), five years with the Canadian government as a Policy Advisor and Economist on energy and environment issues, four years working with international non-governmental organizations such as ICLEI (Secretary General) and most recently as Vice-President of RARE in Washington, D.C.

Sean holds dual Canadian and South African citizenship, and has lived and worked in more than seventy countries. He received an MSc from the London School of Economics (LSE) and a BA in Economics from the University of British Columbia.
