Women now yield unprecedented economic and financial clout--making up nearly two-thirds of the U.S. work force and frequently out-earning their spouses. Yet they have traditionally been underrepresented in the corner office. In honor of International Women's Day and Women's History Month in the U.S., BNY Mellon's executives share lessons from their personal leadership journey. These dedicated leader-coaches are a reflection of why BNY Mellon has become the Investments Company for the World.

Regina Meredith-Carpeni, COO of BNY Mellon’s Global Markets business and WIN Co-chair, with her top five career development tips:

1. Have a game plan but don't follow it rigidly. You want to be flexible to entertain any unexpected opportunities as they arise.
2. Once you have achieved a high level of proficiency in your current job, move on to the next role. Don't get too comfortable and always embrace change.
3. Lateral moves can be really valuable if you develop additional skill sets and your story becomes better. Broader skills open up more opportunities down the road.
4. Raise your hand for the next assignment. If you don't tell people what you want it will remain a secret to everyone.
5. Follow your interests – your passion. Care about what you do and try to excel. Success takes discipline, hard work, focus and the pursuit of excellence. You will spend many many hours of your life working so it is important that you love what you do.
