Think you are compliant with the Occupational Safety and Health Administration’s (OSHA) updated Hazard Communication Standard? The June 1, 2015 deadline is fast approaching, which requires manufacturers to update their Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) to the new GHS standardized 16-section Safety Data Sheet (SDS) format. Recently, OSHA administered an inspection on a manufacturer on September 13, 2014, in response to a complaint. OSHA investigators found that workers were exposed to chemical hazards. Citations were issued for five serious violations, including the company’s failure to properly label hazardous chemicals and failure to produce chemical safety data sheets.
