The [2013 VolunteerMatch Client Summit](http://solutions.volunteermatch.org/summit) will feature several sessions led by corporate social responsibility (CSR) thought leaders. [In this series of posts](http://blogs.volunteermatch.org/volunteeringiscsr/?s=%22meet+the+2013+volunteermatch+client+summit+speakers%22&submit=Search), we’ll introduce you to each of the speakers and what they’ll discuss at the Summit.* **Name:** Barbara Glassman **Title/Organization:** Director of Corporate Relations **Organization:** New York Cares **Best Practice Cafe Topic:** “Redefining Group Volunteering” Participants of the 2013 VolunteerMatch Client Summit who attend this session will learn about program structures that match employee volunteer groups with community partners for ongoing engagement, using Morgan Stanley’s year-round volunteer program as a case study. The discussion will focus on the benefits and challenges inherent in those programs, as well as important considerations to keep in mind when setting up an ongoing engagement between employees and a community partner. Participants will get to know how establishing a successful program for group volunteering creates an ongoing relationship between employee groups and community partners. Group volunteering can be a powerful tool for achieving multiple goals in employee engagement and CSR. For companies, group volunteering can effectively help align employee interests, create targeted impact, build leadership, and spread a vision of corporate philanthropy throughout the firm which will allow a broader base of CSR efforts to be successful and take root. For the community, involving groups of corporate team members, done well, can be a source of human, financial and material capital to which the community partner would otherwise not have access. Barbara will be joined by Minori Rueda and Adalisse Rodriguez from the Morgan Stanley Foundation. **About Barbara Glassman:** Barbara Glassman is the Director of Corporate Relations at New York Cares, New York City’s largest volunteer service organization. As Director of Corporate Relations, Barbara manages employee engagement programming for more than 800 companies each year. From 2003-2010, Barbara’s work at New York Cares primarily focused on children’s and adult education programming. Under her leadership, the Education Programs department created more than 6,000 volunteer projects and 48,000 education-related volunteer opportunities in New York City’s five boroughs. Prior to her career in non-profit, Barbara was a strategic communications consultant at firms in Washington, DC and New York.
