A few hours of volunteer service by a handful of Lincoln Financial volunteers made a huge difference to the homeless and hungry on a recent Saturday evening at Concord’s local soup kitchen. Six volunteers representing the Concord-based Help Desk served a hearty and nourishing meal to more than 100 people, many of them seeking shelter from the cold New England winter.

“It is my delight to be the coordinator when the Lincoln Financial Group serves at the Friendly Kitchen,” wrote Hope Butterworth, a founder of the feeding program. “The group this past weekend…was especially fantastic. They had obviously worked on a healthy and beautiful meal—a great salad, a nutritious pasta meal with fresh broccoli, fresh-baked cookies and brownies and three kinds of fresh fruit.”

Janice Alarie, who in a previous life worked in institutional kitchens, organized the meal and coordinated the volunteers, including her husband Charlie and daughter Jillian, as well as Jason Pietsch, Jessica LaPlante and Sue Gulezian, of the Help Desk.

[Lincoln Financial Foundation](https://www.lfg.com/LincolnPageServer?LFGPage=/lfg/lfgclient/abt/csr/index.html&LFGContentID=/lfg/lfgclient/abt/csr/lff) stepped forward as the lead donor to The Friendly Kitchen’s rebuilding efforts after a fire destroyed its feeding center in 2011. Lincoln Financial volunteers now plan, prepare and serve dinner in its new building on the fourth Saturday of each month.

“Thank you all for your commitment to feeding the hungry,” said Butterworth. “We are proud to have you with us in so many ways.”
