Prior to joining Las Vegas Sands, Katarina led sustainable operations and LEED certification programs for one of the largest development projects in the country at that time, overseeing the LEED certification process. Her leadership resulted in six LEED gold certifications, which is still the current record for the largest new construction LEED-certified project in the world. “Coming from a country where resources were short, conservation was second nature to us,” said Tesarova. “At Las Vegas Sands, we are in a good position to help find solutions for certain unique environmental challenges – like finding a suitable LED solution for highly designed spaces. We have the opportunity to test technologies, such as food digesters and then share best practices and lessons learned,” Tesarova continued. As vice president of global sustainability for Las Vegas Sands, Katarina is a LEED BD+C Accredited Professional. Her dedication and leadership to sustainable business practices has helped Las Vegas Sands receive numerous awards and accolades from leading industry authorities, including a position on CDP’s Climate A List, a listing in the Dow Jones Sustainability Indices for industry-leading corporate sustainability efforts in North America, and recognition as the “greenest” hospitality company in the world by Newsweek’s Green Rankings. While Katarina is extremely proud of these accomplishments, she also realizes there is still work to be done, both for Las Vegas Sands’ integrated resorts in particular, as well as for the industry sector as a whole. She is currently working to align the company’s Sands ECO360 strategy with the United Nation’s set of 17 Sustainable Development Goals to Transform Our World. Another current area of focus for Katarina is supply chain, with a goal for Las Vegas Sands to reduce the impact that its products and services have on the environment and/or human health, and to work with suppliers to find new solutions.
