 # Goodyear Installs Air Purification Systems and Develops a Greenbelt Area in India

April 23, 2021 /3BL Media/ - Goodyear India Limited (GIL), as a part of Goodyear’s Better Future framework and CSR initiative “Solutions to Air Pollution (SAP),”has collaborated with Municipal Corporation of Faridabad (MCF), Corridor Management Unit of Mathura Road, National Highway Authority of India (NHAI), and Indian Pollution Control Association (IPCA) for initiatives to protect the environment, to improve the quality of air that people breathe in Ballabhgarh and Faridabad and to raise awareness regarding air pollution and steps that can be taken to reduce it.

Under this initiative, Goodyear has installed 22 Wind Augmentation Purifying Units (WAYU) (i.e. Ambient Air Purification Systems) at three highly polluted locations at Ballabhgarh, Haryana. IPCA, the implementation partner, will maintain and ensure the upkeep of the advanced air purifiers.

In addition, Goodyear has also developed a greenbelt area of 2.5 km at the divider on the national highway between Goodyear’s plant in Ballabhgarh to Escort Mujesar Metro Station, Faridabad on National Highway 2.

The project was inaugurated by Shri Yashpal (IAS), Deputy Commissioner, Faridabad cum Commissioner, Municipal Corporation of Faridabad and Shri Dhiraj Singh, Manager (Technical), CMU, Mathura Road, NHAI on March 27, 2021. The event was attended by CSIR-National Environmental Engineering Research Institute (NEERI) and other government departments.

Mr. Sandeep Mahajan, Chairman and Managing Director, Goodyear India Limited, said “We are committed to caring for our environment as part of our sustainability efforts and our vision of building a better future. We hope our contribution through our CSR initiative ’Solutions to Air Pollution (SAP),’ helps the citizens of Ballabhgarh and Faridabad to lead healthier lives by breathing cleaner air.”

This CSR initiative is an attempt to reduce the levels of air pollution allowing citizens to lead a healthier life by breathing cleaner air. The technology used has been developed by CSIR-NEERI and has been customized to address the rising levels of air pollution in Faridabad and Ballabhgarh.
