 # GM Technical Center-India Achieves Landfill-Free Status

Bangalore, India, September 12, 2013 /3BL Media/ – The GM Technical Center-India (GMTC-I) in Bangalore is now landfill-free, bringing GM’s total to 24 non-manufacturing sites globally that recycle, reuse or convert to energy all of their daily waste.

The GMTC-I, which celebrated its 10th anniversary on Sept. 8, began its landfill-free journey a year ago. Since then, it has adopted a process to separate waste and engaged a new partner to ensure effective waste management and continuous improvement.

“Achieving landfill-free status is a tremendous accomplishment that demonstrates our philosophy of leading by example,” said Edward J. Sizen, GMTC-I Vice President of Engineering and Operations. “The facilities team did an excellent job enabling us to reach this important milestone.”

  
GM’s landfill-free footprint spans manufacturing facilities such as assembly, powertrain, casting and stamping plants, and non-manufacturing facilities such as office buildings, warehouses and distribution centers. About half of GM’s operations in Asia are landfill-free, including 17 in Korea, 10 in China, four in Thailand and three in India. GM’s worldwide total is 107.

The company is committed to having 25 non-manufacturing landfill-free operations and 100 landfill-free manufacturing facilities by 2020.

GM recycles and reuses more waste from its manufacturing facilities than any other automaker, and no other automaker has as many sites contributing [zero waste](http://media.gm.com/media/us/en/gm/news.detail.html/content/Pages/news/us/en/2012/Jun/0619_landfill_free.html) to landfills.
