GAM is one of the world’s premier suppliers of conflict free tantalum, which is an important material component within automotive electronics systems, and the first metal processor to be declared conflict free in 2010. “GAM is our first member from the mining, smelting and processing activities of the supply chain, and we welcome their expertise and experience as, together, we work to manage this very complex sourcing and compliance challenge,” said J. As a member of AIAG, GAM joins an association of automakers, suppliers, retailers service providers, academics and governments that are collaborating to streamline global industry standards and business practices. AIAG’s conflict minerals work group is helping automotive companies comply with 1502 of the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act on Conflict Minerals. It is examining the relevant supply chains to ensure that automotive parts and assemblies do not contain conflict minerals that have contributed to financing armed conflicts in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) and adjoining countries.
