(3BLMedia/theCSRfeed) New York – October 28, 2010 – The Ethisphere Institute today announced its second annual list of Attorneys Who Matter, recognizing more than 100 attorneys who have made exceptional contributions to the corporate compliance and ethics field. The attorneys represent a range of legal occupations, from compliance specialists to in-house counsel, and from government regulators to white collar attorneys.

“Ethisphere is extremely proud to recognize this year’s Attorneys Who Matter, all of whom are the top legal experts and thought leaders in their respective fields,” said Tim Erblich, Executive Vice President of the Ethisphere Institute. “Every one of these attorneys has significantly advanced the cause of corporate compliance and ethics. In a rapidly evolving and increasingly complex industry, we’re grateful to these individuals for consistently setting higher standards for corporate behavior and encouraging accountability for that behavior—good or bad.”
Ethisphere analysts used the following criteria to determine this year’s list of Attorneys Who Matter: recognized expertise, peer/client endorsements, high-profile litigation, number of cases won, high-profile clients, public service, legal community engagement, academic involvement and other awards and recognitions.
This year’s Attorneys Who Matter designations were awarded across 15 categories, including Hall of Fame, Top Guns, Up-and-Comers, Government Stars, Top General Counsel and Top Ethics and Compliance Officers.
“It is a real honor to be named as one of Ethisphere’s 2010 ‘Attorneys Who Matter,’” said Larry Boyd, General Counsel of Ingram Micro, and listed as one of this year’s Top General Counsel. “While personally gratifying to be included among accomplished in-house and outside counsel who are recognized as leaders in compliance and ethics, it more importantly honors the team we have here at Ingram Micro who are working daily to build a stronger corporate culture of compliance and trust.”
Haydee Olinger, Chief Compliance Officer for McDonald’s Corporation, and recognized as one of this year’s Top Compliance Officers, echoes Mr. Boyd’s sentiments. “Winning the award helps raise our employees’ awareness to the fact that McDonald's fosters and encourages an environment where ethical decision making is an integral part of how we conduct business,” Olinger said.
The Hall of Fame category recognizes the attorneys who scored highest in each of the nine criteria. These attorneys have had enduring and successful careers in a number of different positions and specialties. Ethisphere recognized two new Hall of Famers in 2010: William R. McLucas of WilmerHale and Thomas C. Green of Sidley Austin.
The Top Guns for 2010 are attorneys who have a wide range of experience and are leaders in the outside counsel community. This year’s list includes:
  • Carol Elder Bruce – K&L Gates

  • Lucinda A. Low – Steptoe & Johnson

  • Mark F. Mendelsohn – Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison
