Companies from across the state participated in a two-part process to determine the honorees. The first part consisted of evaluating each nominated company's workplace policies, practices, and demographics. The second part consisted of an employee survey to measure employee engagement and satisfaction. Best Companies Group managed the overall registration and survey process in Illinois and also analyzed the data and used their expertise to determine the final rankings. Diageo’s Plainfield, Illinois location is home to the company’s largest bottling facility in North America, and the region’s brand technical facility which helps to turn new liquid and packaging ideas into commercial products. The site is also the primary manufacturing location for Diageo’s range of Smirnoff brands. It has played a key role in the Illinois community for many years and seen a number of expansions and upgrades since its opening in 1966, including a recently-completed $120 million enhancement. Diageo also has an office in downtown Chicago with sales and marketing team members from several of the company’s divisions. The office space includes a special Johnnie Walker Lounge, where the team hosts Bartenders and members of the Industry. This space provides a great opportunity for employees to connect with important Customers and Distributors who are based in, or visiting the city. Diageo’s Chicago Team also participates in a variety of Chicagoland community service initiatives, both individually and as part of the team’s official Service Day. The 2016 *Best Places to Work in Illinois* list is made up of 18 companies in the large employer category (500 or more U.S. employees), 26 companies in the medium employer category (100-499 U.S. employees), and 30 companies in the small employer category (15-99 U.S. employees). Diageo has been named one of the *Best Places to Work in Illinois* in the large employer category.
