[World Food Day Brings Attention to the Need to End Hunger](http://bit.ly/15IChbl)

As a restaurant company, it's impossible to ignore the reality of the need for food. Nearly 49 million Americans — including 16 million children — are at risk of hunger. And, each year in America, more than 33 million tons of food -- $165 billion worth -- is sent to landfills. Darden Restaurants recognizes our unique opportunity to be able to do something to help with these staggering numbers.

Observed every October 16, World Food Day offers the opportunity to strengthen solidarity in the struggle against hunger and draw attention to achievements in food security. Since its inception in 1981, World Food Day has been observed domestically and internationally to create unity among groups working to relieve hunger and to educate thousands about the reality of global hunger and the approaches to end it. Today serves as a reminder that the fight to end hunger both in America and internationally must continue.
