TransCanada is committed to investing in the communities where we work and operate. We believe that all of our projects should have a positive effect on communities, including the economic benefits of our projects, the purchase of local goods and services, contributions to local taxes and community investments.

A recent example of our commitment to local hiring is the jobs information session held for our Napanee Generating Station (NGS) project. Last month, the NGS project team hosted the session at the Strathcona Paper Centre in the Town of Greater Napanee, Ont.

Hundreds of local residents took the time to attend and learn more about the proposed power facility and the potential employment opportunities during its construction and operation. The proposed facility is expected to provide a number of economic benefits, including construction and operations jobs, the procurement of local goods and services, as well as approximately $1 million in annual contributions to the local tax base.

The total construction workforce is estimated between 600 to 750. This will include between 550 to 650 skilled trades workers – work for boilermakers, carpenters, cement masons, electricians, ironworkers, labourers, millwrights, operating engineers, pipefitters, sheet metal workers, insulators and painters – and 50 to 100 project and construction management personnel. The total expected work generated by the construction activities is estimated at between 1.7 to 2 million hours!
