 # Being Mobile: Best Practices for Keeping your Child Safe on Mobile Technology

My friend’s two year old woke up today and bellowed from her crib, “I want my iPad!” Even within your family, you may find your youngest child started using technology with far greater ease than your oldest child. Some of this can be attributed to the popularity and ease of use for touchscreen devices and smartphones. And your children, like you, are spending [more and more time](http://community.norton.com/t5/Ask-Marian/EU-Kids-Online-Research-Study-Zero-to-Eight-Young-Children-and/ba-p/1027201) on mobile devices. Just because you spend so much time on your smartphone doesn’t necessarily mean you are addicted but we’re certainly beginning to form a dependency that can be a concern. The new [Norton report](http://www.symantec.com/about/news/resources/press_kits/detail.jsp?pkid=norton-report-2013) shows we’re sleeping with our phone next to the bed, checking our social networks within minutes of waking up, bringing them to the dinner table and annoying our friends and family with bad mobile habits.

For any parent, your first concern has to be the [safety of your child](http://www.symantec.com/connect/blogs/game-plan-keeping-your-family-safe-online) when using these devices. And within that topic, there are really **three priorities**:

1. Keeping your child **safe from strangers and away from adult and violent material**;
2. Keeping the device **clean from malware** and the **data secured and private**; and
3. Keeping the device **safe from physical damage**.
