 # Announcing Data for Good Exchange 2016 (#D4GX): Better Governance

On Sunday **September 25th 2016**, we will once again convene our growing community around the topic of “Data for Social Good” at our ***[Data for Good Exchange 2016](http://www.bloomberg.com/company/d4gx/)***. The overall theme for this year’s event will be “**better governance**” – how data science can be applied to solve public interest problems.

“This gathering continues to be an important way for the industry to share their cutting edge data science methodologies with the non-profit and governmental sectors so that together we can help solve some of the world’s most pressing issues,” said Gideon Mann, Head of Data Science at Bloomberg.

This year’s event will again take place at our global headquarters at 731 Lexington Ave New York NY on Sunday, September 25, 2016. There will be no cost to attend.

Keynote and workshop sessions will be organized around the following topic areas.

- **Justice and fairness**, including criminal justice, discrimination, algorithmic bias, workers’ rights, voting rights, etc.
- **Economic development**, including housing, job security, immigration, wages, challenges coming from the “gig” economy, remittance services, etc.
- **Security and safety**, including emergency services, cyber-attacks, dark web and illegal content, gun control, resilience, etc.
- **Public service delivery**, including transportation, sustainability, biodiversity and health monitoring, public health, etc.

**Today we are opening our “call for papers” with the goal of sharing success stories, challenges, and visions.**

Submissions should meet the following criteria:

- Explains a successful application or innovative system that solves a governance problem
- Presents a challenge problem that might be aided by use of data science or citizen science
- Describes an especially relevant and specialized data set, or
- Lays out a vision for the future direction of these growing fields
