  Campaign:  [AEP Publishes its 2012 Corporate Accountability Report](/node/26827) American Electric Power (NYSE: AEP) is at the forefront of a major transformation of the electric utility industry in the United States. In its 2012 Corporate Accountability Report, AEP outlines the significant challenges it is faced with and its strategy for a sustainable transformation. Several factors, including the economy, the cost-competitiveness of natural gas versus coal, aging coal units, and increased market competition are the key drivers of this transition. Highlights in the report include:

- A transition of top corporate leadership
- Details of AEP’s four-part strategy for success
- Reliability concerns associated with new environmental regulations
- An interview with members of AEP’s board of directors about the business of governance
- Greater clarity around the interdependencies of AEP’s financial performance with its operational performance
- An overview of environmental and safety performance
- The challenges of and commitment to stakeholder engagement
- Cyber security threats and readiness

For the first time, AEP’s 2012 Corporate Accountability Report is mapped to the draft International Integrated Reporting Council framework for integrated reporting. The report also received a GRI-checked Application Level A for the fourth consecutive year. This is AEP’s third integrated report and the sixth year of reporting sustainability performance.
