Campaign: [Allstate Foundation/National Safety Council Teen Safe Driving Coalitions](/node/31368) ![](https://3blaws.s3.amazonaws.com/styles/carousel_2x/s3/images/customLogo.jpg)

*Maryland Teen Safe Driving Coalition hosts annual meeting*

WHAT: [Maryland Teen Safe Driving Coalition](https://sites.google.com/site/mdteensafedrivingcoalition/) annual strategy meeting and workshop

WHEN: 9 a.m. - 3 p.m. Monday, Oct. 22, 2012 – Open to media at 2 p.m.

WHERE: Maryland MVA, One Orchard Rd., Glen Burnie, MD 21060

WHO: State law enforcement officials, traffic safety experts, educators, teens, community members, parents and individuals and families affected by crashes involving teen drivers.

WHY: Car crashes are the No. 1 killer of teens, accounting for more deaths than the next two leading causes for that age group combined. The Maryland Teen Safe Driving Coalition works to help prevent deaths and injuries associated with these crashes by educating the public about [Graduated Driver Licensing](http://www.nsc.org/safety_road/TeenDriving/GDL/Pages/GraduatedDriverLicensing.aspx) systems. States with strong GDL systems have seen as much as a 40 percent reduction in teen-related crashes.

Though Maryland has good teen driving restrictions, the Coalition recognizes that more still can be done. Research from the [License to Save](http://www.allstatefoundation.org/license-to-save) report indicated the state could save $200 million each year by strengthening its teen driving restrictions.

The Coalition has hosted several activities this year to raise awareness about issues facing teen drivers, and will focus this year on reaching teens and parents in targeted communities. Impacted families and other individuals and organizations dedicated to teen driver safety will be available for interviews. Coalitions like Maryland’s have been established in 10 other states, and Regional Coalition Manager Kathy Bernstein from the National Safety Council also will be in attendance to answer questions and speak with media.

CONTACT: If you would like to attend, schedule an interview or have questions, please contact:
