 # Advancing The Power of Science Behind Immuno-Oncology

  Campaign:  [Pfizer 2017 Annual Review: The Power of Science](/news/campaign/pfizer-2017-annual-review-power-science) Pfizer’s advances in oncology demonstrate the Power of Scientific innovation to help improve lives, particularly the power of Immuno-oncology (I-O). Immuno-oncology uses the natural ability of the body’s immune system to recognize and fight tumors. This past year, Pfizer continued to advance its work in I-O because we recognize the urgency of finding anti-cancer alternatives to help patients who need them.

For the past 11 years, our scientist Christina Eng has spent her career exploring new ways to target and fight cancer using the science of I-O. By combining our understanding of the science of the immune system with the science of immunotherapy, we hope to change the way cancer is treated and help improve the lives of patients around the world in need of alternatives to traditional cancer treatments.
