WILLINGBORO, N.J., June 4, 2015 /3BL Media/ – ACME Markets, a local supermarket chain operating more than 107 stores in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware and Maryland, is partnering with Blessings in a Backpack and CBS EcoMedia to support the provision of free weekend meals for more than 150 students at Bonsall Elementary School in Camden, N.J. This program will provide weekend meals for three full school years with backpack food including easy-to-prepare, ready-to-eat foods, like granola bars, juice boxes, mac and cheese, and oatmeal.

To celebrate the partnership, ACME Markets will host an employee volunteer activity today at 1:00 PM, where staff members at the Willingboro, N.J. (2091 Route 130 North) store will collect, package and distribute food for Bonsall Elementary. This year’s volunteer event marks the third year of the ACME partnership with Blessings in a Backpack.

“ACME is privileged to support the mission of Blessings in a Backpack, and each year we participate, we know that another 150 underserved children and their families will have healthy meals on the weekends. At ACME, it is part of our culture to give back to the communities we serve,” said Sherry Caldwell, ACME Director of Marketing.

Every weekend, children across the country go hungry because they don’t have enough food to eat. Thirty-one million students in the United States qualify for the Federal Free and Reduced Price Meal Program, and within the Camden City School District, approximately 95% of students are eligible for free lunches. While that program provides food during the week, these students often have little or no means of obtaining food on weekends. Blessings in a Backpack is a 501(c)(3) volunteer organization that provides food for more than 72,000 elementary school children across 44 states on weekends during the school year, filling a significant hunger gap for these children.

**About Blessings in a Backpack**

Blessings in a Backpack, *People Magazine’s Charity of 2012,* is a results-oriented program that is designed to feed elementary school children whose families qualify for the federally funded National School Lunch Program and have little or no food on the weekends. Better test scores, improved reading skills, positive behavior, improved health and increased attendance have all been attributed to the success of this program. For as little as $80 Blessings in a Backpack can feed one American school child in our program for an entire 38-week school year. Blessings in a Backpack is currently feeding over 72,000 children in 800 schools across 44 U.S. states and the District of Columbia.
