2019 Pinnacle Awards Recognize Booz Allen’s Cedric Sims and Josh Sullivan

Dr. Cedric Sims was named National Security/DHS Industry Executive of the Year and Dr. Josh Sullivan was a finalist for Artificial Intelligence Industry Executive of the Year in the 2019 Pinnacle Awards.

WashingtonExec magazine’s Pinnacle Awards recognize mission-focused executives and businesses who lead the industry in making government more efficient and foster innovation for federal clients throughout the region.

Using data to fight crime and facilitate claims

Sims, a senior vice president with Booz Allen, was recognized for his work with the firm’s Repository for Analytics in a Virtualized Environments (RAVEn) platform. Using investigative and scientific capabilities coupled with intelligence, the RAVEn platform helps Immigration and Customs Enforcement investigators rapidly review case data and pinpoint suspects of child exploitation.

Sims also led a digitization project to help members of the law enforcement community apply for 9/11 victim compensation benefits by a statutory deadline. The project combined modern technologies and manual inspection to transcribe documents damaged in the 9/11 attacks, allowing victims to file claims. A commemoration website, launched during 2019 Police Week, recognized these individuals.

Accelerating AI adoption in the federal government

Dr. Sullivan, a senior vice president with Booz Allen, was recognized for his work supporting AI in defense and intelligence community missions. Dr. Sullivan drives the vision, strategy, investments, and delivery of complex technology and analytics programs for clients across every industry. Dr. Sullivan conceived and helped create the Data Science Bowl, the premier worldwide machine learning challenge for social good.

Dr. Sullivan is passionate about changing the world by improving how technology and analytics can be applied to advance the nation's capabilities in cyberspace, healthcare, national intelligence, and delivering services to our citizens.

Most recently, his team launched a a first-of-its-kind enterprise artificial intelligence (AI) platform and marketplace—Modzy—with embedded security, adversarial defense, and governance. Modzy operationalize trusted AI for the enterprise, enabling customers access to a growing marketplace of pre-trained AI models from leading machine learning companies.
