Outdoor Outreach empowers at- risk and underprivileged youth to make positive, lasting changes in their lives through comprehensive outdoor programming. Our programs support underserved youth who are at risk for school dropout, substance abuse, violence and unintended pregnancy.  We are the only agency in San Diego, and one of just a few in the country, to utilize outdoor physical experiences to provide youth with the support, relationships, and opportunities they need to become successful adults.

This past summer I had the opportunity to once again lead a group of teenagers into my favorite mountain range: the Sierra Nevada. I find great satisfaction in knowing that my passion for the outdoors can be translated into something that I can make a living doing. As the environmental education program manager for the American River Conservancy, I spend a great deal of time working with youth and teaching them about conservation and wilderness, without knowing the impact that I’m having.

Chicago Voyagers provides adventure learning services to at-risk youth. Out-of-doors adventures are the perfect means to work with youth.  Adventure learning provides many natural lessons while allowing the youth to have fun and improve their physical health. The outdoors exposes youth to the world around them. It gets kids off the couch and combats the national crises in obesity.  It gives kids an alternative to gangs and combats the national crises in youth violence. 

We teach the youth about:

The North Face Awards $125,000 in Explore Fund Grants

(3BL Media / theCSRfeed) San Leandro, CA - November 17 - The North Face today announced that it has awarded the second round of Explore Fund grants for 2011, over $125,000 in grants to 51 projects that will affect more than 30,000 children across the nation. The North Face introduced the Explore Fund (www.explorefund.org) in 2010 and the program has since provided more than half a million dollars in grants to organizations committed to breaking down barriers to getting youth outdoors.
