Business Schools Innovate in Sustainability Education

As sustainability in its various forms becomes more integrated into business practices and strategies, business schools are adapting their programs to better prepare the sustainability professionals of the future. McGill University in Montreal is a good example.

Its business school is offering a curriculum for managing sustainability taught by professors in business, environment, and geography. Issues of scientific findings and environmental theory are connected with a business perspective. Students who select the interdisciplinary course offerings as their major can also choose between an internship, a real-world consultancy, or a research project to round out their sustainability education. According to Steve Maguire, director of the school’s Desautels Institute for Integrated Management, employers are increasingly looking for graduates who are knowledgeable in all aspects of sustainability.

The program seems to be working. According to Dr. Maguire, graduates are landing jobs in business consultancy and environmental advocacy. I’m John Howell for 3BL Media.
