CSR Europe Plans for the Future: “Enterprise 2020 Manifesto”

The possible exit of Greece from the eurozone has raised the question of whether a pan-European business entity based on a common currency can work. CSR Europe has answered with the recently announced Enterprise 2020 Manifesto, a set of priorities for corporate social responsibility across all EU countries. The Manifesto is a collaborative creation that includes input from 10,000 companies, 40 partner organizations such as Business in the Community, and members of the CSR360 Global Partner Network. It lays out three, broad strategic priorities for the next five years of sustainable economic growth. One, make employability and inclusion a priority across boards, management, and value chains. Two, stimulate companies to engage as committed partners with communities, cities, and regions to develop new sustainable production methods, consumption, and livelihoods.  And three, put transparency and respect for human rights at the center of business conduct.

If business, governments, and CSR organizations work together, as called for in the Manifesto, these action items stand a good chance of getting the European idea back on track.

I’m John Howell for 3BL Media.
